Doha: The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) said that preparations are set for the launch of the International Conference on the Protection of Children and Other Vulnerable Groups on Monday, organized in partnership with the European Ombudsman Institute (EOI). The conference will see the opening speeches of HE Chairperson of NHRC Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah, HE President of EOI Prof. Dragan Milkov, and Head of Analysis and Outreach Hub at the Office of the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict Dawood Al Masri. The conference will consist of three sessions, the first of which will discuss protecting children and other vulnerable groups during migration and war. The 1st session will see presentations by: HE Chief Ombudsman of Turkiye Seref Malkoc on the role of the ombudsman in protecting children's rights during migration and war; HE Human Rights Commissioner in the Russian Federation Tatyana Moskalkova on issues related to protecting childre n and other vulnerable groups in the work of the Russian Federation's Human Rights Commissioner; HE Ombudsperson of the Turkish Speaking Community of Cyprus ?lkan Varol on the protection of children and vulnerable groups during migration and war; Chief of the International Organization for Migration Mission in Qatar Ewa Naqvi on the protection of children and vulnerable groups in the context of migration. The 2nd session will focus on protection from cyber-threats: children and adolescents in the digital age, which will see presentations by: HE President of the European Ombudsman Institute (EOI) Prof. Dragan Milkov on the Internet new challenges for the ombudsman; HE Ombudsperson in Sverdlovsk oblast Tatyana Merzlyakova on protecting children and adolescents from cyber-threats in today's world; HE regional ombudsperson of Serbia's City of Nis Katarina Mitrovski on protecting children's rights in the digital environment. The 3rd session will focus on the role of ombudsmen in protecting the rights of children and vulnerable groups, with presentations by: Chairperson of the Bulgarian Commission for Protection against Discrimination Ana Dzhumalieva on the right of migrant children to education; HE Commissioner for Human Rights in Yaroslavl Region - Russia Sergey Baburkin on the role of the ombudsman in protecting children and other vulnerable groups; Head of Legal Affairs Department at NHRC Nasser Sultan Al Marri on National Human Rights Institutions' best practices in protecting children and other vulnerable groups.
