Manama Ahmed bin Saleh Al Derazi, President of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), commended Decision (49) of 2024, issued by General Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior, on amending some provisions of the executive bylaw of the law on reform and rehabilitation institutions. Al Derazi emphasised the importance of this decision in promoting human rights within rehabilitation centres by providing comprehensive and free medical care to inmates and pretrial detainees. He noted that the decision permits inmates to accommodate up to six family members or friends for visits, with special provisions for children under the age of twelve. The decision also mandates the provision of specialised dietary options, as recommended by a nutritionist, for inmates with specific nutritional requirements. Al Derazi emphasised the commitment of NIHR to supporting any measures to enhance upholding the rights of inmates. Source: Bahrain News Agency
