Tokyo: Japan's benchmark Nikkei closed higher on Wednesday, driven by a rise in shares of Advantest, a leading semiconductor company and supplier to Nvidia. Investors are eagerly awaiting the outlook from the US company Nvidia as it prepares to release its earnings report soon.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Nikkei index, which includes major technology companies, rose 0.3 percent to close at 42,520.27 points. However, the broader Topix index experienced a slight decline, falling 0.07 percent to 3,069.74 points.
Advantest shares jumped 4.49 percent, providing the biggest boost to the Nikkei. Meanwhile, shares of camera manufacturer Nikon soared 20.74 percent to 1,746.5 yen, reaching the daily trading limit.
Most automotive company stocks saw declines. Honda shares decreased by 0.48 percent, while Mitsubishi Motors fell by 1.95 percent following a reduction in its full-year operating profit forecast by 30 percent. However, Toyota shares managed to recover from early losses, closing up 0.21 percent.
Bank and financial institution stocks also saw declines, with Mitsubishi UFJ Financial shares dropping 0.99 percent and Sumitomo Mitsui shares decreasing by 0.85 percent.
