Kandahar: Nine people were killed by severe storms and a landslide triggered by heavy rains in southern and eastern Afghanistan.
According to Qatar News Agency, the emergency management department in Kandahar province reported in a statement on Thursday that strong winds and heavy rains killed six children and caused significant material damage in several areas. The statement added that the storms also damaged homes.
The department also reported that a landslide caused by heavy rains killed three members of one family and injured two others in eastern Nuristan province.
It is worth noting that snowfall over the past 24 hours has resulted in an accumulation of approximately 80 centimeters of snow, forcing authorities to close markets and roads.
Afghanistan frequently experiences deadly storms, landslides, and floods, particularly in remote areas with fragile infrastructure.
