Doha: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) today reiterated its call to the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to take all necessary decisions and measures to protect the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), its facilities, and its staff, and to compel Israel to cease its violations and respect its obligations under international law.
According to Qatar News Agency, the OIC condemned the Israeli occupation forces' storming and demolition of facilities belonging to the UNRWA headquarters in occupied Jerusalem. The organization described this act as a dangerous escalation and a violation of the UN Charter, UN resolutions, the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice, and the 1946 Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations.
The OIC asserted that the targeting of UNRWA's headquarters in occupied Jerusalem is part of Israel's efforts to undermine the agency's existence and its role in addressing the refugee issue. This action, they claim, is an attempt to weaken the international community's commitment to Palestinian refugees and the protection of their rights as laid out in relevant UN resolutions.
