On Gulf Children’s Day, NHRC Chairperson Affirms Prioritizing Children’s Physical, Psychological Growth Achieves Enduring Advancement of Nations

Doha: HE Chairperson of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC), Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah, stated that the real investment in humanity relies on protecting children's health and fostering their growth based on a strong physical, psychological, and educational foundation to drive the enduring advancement of nations.

According to Qatar News Agency, Her Excellency addressed an event marking Gulf Children's Day, which falls annually on January 15. She emphasized that providing excellent services to children is the first step towards building generations for a future filled with creative national achievements. Gulf Children's Day, an initiative by the Gulf Health Council (GHC), is seen as the cornerstone of a unified Gulf community.

Her Excellency praised the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) for its exceptional services to priority groups, including children. The MoPH offers numerous services through its institutions, such as healthy child clinics at all primary healthcare centers for children under five, aligning with international standards.

She highlighted the prioritization of adolescent health initiatives as part of adolescent-friendly healthcare services. This includes an integrated health program offering physical examinations and psychological counseling for adolescents aged 10 to 18.

HE Al Attiyah noted that all clinics provide comprehensive services, including general physical tests and examinations to manage prevalent health issues affecting this age group.

She emphasized that these efforts are central to promoting and safeguarding fundamental human rights. The State of Qatar prioritizes caring for youngsters even before birth through maternal and child healthcare.

Her Excellency underlined that Qatar's actions toward children align with their best interests as stipulated in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, which outlines governments' responsibilities towards children. She stressed the importance of ensuring children are not deprived of their rights, including family guidance and measures to ensure they thrive.

Despite state-led efforts, HE Al Attiyah pointed out that NHRC continues to call for further advancement of children's rights, as they represent the backbone of Qatar's present and future. She urged leveraging this day to inspire further initiatives and activities that promote healthy living for children.

Announced by GHC, Gulf Children's Day aims to highlight children's rights and raise awareness, particularly in health and education, focusing on health quality, proper child-rearing practices, and encouraging physical activities.
