Syrian media reported on Friday that one person was killed and another was injured in an Israeli bombardment that targeted a car on the road to Damascus International Airport. Over the past years, Israel has carried out hundreds of air strikes on Syria as part of what it says is a campaign to prevent Iran from establishing a military presence there, while the Syrian authorities have repeatedly vowed to respond without actually doing so. In early April, an Israeli airstrike targeted the Iranian consulate in Damascus, killing Iranian military advisers, prompting Tehran to respond with unprecedented strikes targeting Israel.
