Over 600,000 Gaza Children Have Been Deprived of Schooling for Over Two Years: UNRWA

Gaza city: The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, affirmed that more than 600,000 children in Gaza have been deprived of formal schooling for over two years. Posting on the X platform, Lazzarini noted that these children are deeply traumatized and living amidst the rubble, and that bringing them back to a safe learning environment is a top priority for UNRWA.

According to Qatar News Agency, Lazzarini explained that, currently, 65,000 children are in UNRWA's temporary learning spaces in Gaza, in addition to nearly 300,000 children receiving basic literacy and numeracy lessons on digital platforms. Notably, UNRWA has been providing relief, health, and educational services to Palestine refugees across its areas of operation, despite ongoing restrictions and attacks by Israel, coinciding with its aggression against the Gaza Strip since Oct. 7, 2023.
