Geneva, The Bahraini parliamentary delegation, represented by MP Abdulnabi Salman, First Deputy Speaker of the Council of Representatives, and Dalal Jassim Al Zayed, Shura Council member, highlighted Bahrain as a leading example of women's progress and gender balance in a panel on gender equality and the role of parliamentarians at the 149th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly in Geneva. The delegation noted the achievements in advancing women's rights and enhancing their political, economic, and social roles, reflecting a strong commitment to gender equality and women's empowerment across sectors under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. Salman highlighted Bahrain's progress, noting that women currently hold 18 out of 80 parliamentary seats, and have also assumed key ministerial and leadership roles. He emphasised the importance of policies addressing violence against women and equal educational opportunities to enhance women's participation in all domains. Al Zayed discussed the e stablishment of specialised parliamentary committees for women and children, reflecting Bahrain's dedication to advancing women's role in decision-making and political participation. She also noted the efforts of the Supreme Council for Women, chaired by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, in supporting women's growth across sectors. She added that Bahrain is committed to reviewing legislation and strengthening protections for women and girls, while also promoting their training in technology and artificial intelligence.
