Permanent Representative of Qatar Emphasizes Multilateral Cooperation at WEF Panel

Geneva: HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar Dr. Hind bint Abdulrahman Al Muftah participated in a panel discussion on shaping international relations through dialogue during the World Economic Forum 2026 in Davos. Her Excellency highlighted the challenges facing the multilateral system, including intensified competition among major powers and the politicization of multilateral action, which have led to a paralysis in responding to crises.

According to Qatar News Agency, Her Excellency introduced the third edition of the Global Cooperation Barometer 2026, emphasizing that global challenges require renewed international engagement and well-defined frameworks for cooperation. She noted that international conflicts now reshape the global order, affecting economic systems and security.

Her Excellency expressed concern over the faltering progress toward Sustainable Development Goals, stressing the need for a multilateral approach integrating humanitarian action, development, and peacebuilding. She affirmed the United Nations' capability to strengthen cooperation through strategic investments in diplomacy and mediation, supporting peacebuilding, and promoting human rights.

Highlighting Qatar's active role in supporting international efforts, Her Excellency noted Doha's position as a platform for dialogue and emphasized the need for sustained action to reform global governance. She advocated for enhancing transparency, accountability, and the inclusion of developing countries in global decision-making.

Her Excellency also stressed the importance of preventive diplomacy, increased investment in early-warning systems, and regional-specific political solutions. She highlighted cooperation on cross-border challenges like climate change and food security as vital for restoring trust in multilateral action.

Emphasizing the role of women in peace processes, Her Excellency called for advancing gender equality and empowering civil society and youth to foster dialogue and innovation. Concluding, she reaffirmed the indispensability of multilateral cooperation in shaping future global governance and building a peaceful and resilient world.
