PJS Reports 99 Israeli Abuses Against Palestinian Journalists in December

Ramallah: The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate (PJS) recorded a total of 99 abuses committed by Israeli occupation forces against journalists during December 2025. The report highlights the increased level of repression and restrictions faced by Palestinian journalists, who are now being targeted directly, not only as witnesses but also as deliberate targets.

According to Qatar News Agency, the report from PJS documented severe incidents, including the killing of one journalist during fieldwork and injuries to two others due to direct targeting and bombardment. Additionally, it recorded the deaths of two relatives of journalists, suggesting an expansion of targeting to include families as part of a collective punishment strategy.

The reported abuses consisted of preventing journalistic coverage, 48 instances of journalist detention, 15 attacks involving tear gas and sound bombs during coverage, and two deliberate attempts to run over journalists. There were also nine cases of threats with weapons and six instances of direct verbal threats.

In the same month, PJS noted two cases of physical assault against journalists, the destruction of journalistic equipment, and the decimation of two journalists' homes due to airstrikes. The report also included two cases of detention, two instances of summons and security interrogation, and two cases before Israeli courts involving administrative detention.

The context of the report also mentions two cases of organized incitement through Israeli media outlets and information centers, where journalists were falsely linked to armed groups. PJS emphasized that the recorded violations reflect a systematic policy of repression and an escalation in targeting journalists.

The Syndicate stressed that these incidents represent a violation of international humanitarian law, especially Article 79 of Additional Protocol I to the Geneva Conventions, which mandates the protection of journalists during armed conflicts.
