PNC President: Gaza A Humanitarian Catastrophe That Demands International Action

Gaza: President of the Palestinian National Council (PNC) Rawhi Fattouh described the situation in the Gaza Strip as a humanitarian tragedy and an unimaginable catastrophe, calling for the territory to be declared an internationally recognized disaster zone.

According to Qatar News Agency, Fattouh stated that the ongoing policy of systematic starvation, which intensifies daily, is essentially a form of genocide inflicted on a defenseless population through tools of siege and slow death. He highlighted that the death of more than 147 Palestinians from hunger, most of them infants and children, is a stain on the conscience of humanity and irrefutable evidence of the horrific humanitarian scene unfolding under the occupation.

Fattouh emphasized that the situation in Gaza is not a sudden disaster but a deliberate attempt to forcibly displace the population, pushing them into uncertainty. This is part of plans by far-right factions that view the existence of Palestinians as an obstacle. He also criticized the persistent silence and inaction of the international community.

The President of the Palestinian National Council urged that the time has arrived to declare Gaza an internationally recognized disaster zone, necessitating immediate international intervention under the supervision of the United Nations to save the remaining Palestinian population, who face daily threats of death from missiles, starvation, or neglect.

He affirmed that protecting Palestinian civilians is not merely a moral obligation but a legal and binding duty under international humanitarian law and the United Nations Charter.
