Damascus, President Bashar al-Assad on wednesday performed Eid al-Fitr prayer at al-Takwa mosque in Dummar of Damascus. Minister of Endowments, a number of senior Syrian officials, al-Baath party members, MPs and several Islamic scholars and citizens performed the prayers along the President, led by Imam Ahmad Mohammad Adnan al-Afyouni. 'Eid al-Fitr is a day of joy and happiness, but Ramadan came this year while our brothers in Gaza are suffering from the criminal Zionist genocide machine,' Sheikh Afyouni said in the Eid sermon. Imam Afyouni added that Syria, throughout its history, has been and still a country that rejects extremism, a country that lives Islam as lived by the Prophet Mohammad, so it is now a beacon of the moderate thought that spreads the values of tolerance. Sheikh Afyouni concluded the sermon by asking God to preserve Syria and its leader, the army, and to have mercy on its martyrs, wishing quick recovery for the wounded. Source: Syrian Arab News Agency
