Cairo: HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani participated in a critical meeting of the ministerial committee on the Gaza Strip, alongside HE High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas. The meeting, held in Cairo on Sunday, was convened by the joint Arab-Islamic extraordinary summit to address developments in the region.
According to Qatar News Agency, the meeting saw participation from key figures including HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Palestine, Dr. Mohammed Mustafa, and HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Jordan, Dr. Ayman Al Safadi. Other notable attendees included HH Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia, Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah Al Saud, and HE Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt, Dr. Badr Abdel Aati. Representatives from Bahrain, Turkiye, the United Arab Emirates, the Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Indonesia, and Nigeria were also present.
The discussion focused on reinstating the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip following renewed aggression by Israeli forces. Ensuring the continuous and unimpeded flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza was a priority, especially after Israeli forces blocked aid following the first phase of the ceasefire deal. The meeting also addressed the impact of Israel's electricity cut-off to Gaza and the escalating situation in the occupied West Bank, alongside international efforts to implement a two-state solution based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as the Palestinian capital.
HE the Prime Minister highlighted Qatar's ongoing mediation efforts aimed at ending the conflict in Gaza, condemning the Israeli bombardment of civilians and civilian infrastructure. His Excellency emphasized the need for regional and international collaboration to pressure Israel into fully implementing the ceasefire agreement, addressing the severe humanitarian crisis in the region.
