Head of the Independent High Authority for Elections in Tunisia Farouk Bouasker, announced Monday that candidate Qais Saied won the first round of the presidential elections with 90.69 percent. Bouasker noted, during a press conference, that the final participation rate in the presidential elections inside and outside Tunisia reached 28.8 percent. He added that candidate Saied (66 years old) received a total of 2 million, 438 thousand, and 954 votes, while candidate Ayachi Zemal received 197 thousand, 551 votes (7.35 percent), and candidate Zuhair Al-Maghzawi received 52 thousand, 903 votes (1.97 percent). The number of voters inside and outside Tunisia, according to Bouasker, reached 2 million, 808 thousand, and 548 voters. The head of the Independent High Authority for Elections added that the Authority's council unanimously approved "the victory of candidate Qais Saied by the majority of voters' votes and declared his victory in the first round of the elections." The elections were held in Tunisia last Sunday, and abroad on the 4th, 5th and 6th of this month in 59 countries. Source: Qatar News Agency
