Qatar 2025 World Table Tennis Championships Draw Ceremony Impresses with Unique Maroon Tables

Lusail: Khalil Al Mohannadi, President of the Qatar Table Tennis Association, head of the Arab and Asian federations, and first vice-president of the ITTF, expressed his satisfaction with the smooth execution of the World Championships draw ceremony. He emphasized that Qatar is preparing for an exceptional edition of the World Championships, which he believes will stand out in the sport's history.

According to Qatar News Agency, Al Mohannadi confirmed that preparations are on track, with final installations at the Lusail and Qatar University halls expected to be completed within three days. Everything is anticipated to be ready by May 10, with official team delegations starting to arrive on May 11. The upcoming ITTF General Assembly on May 27 is expected to witness a record turnout, with representatives from over 200 national associations set to elect a new ITTF president.

For the first time, the organizing committee has introduced maroon-colored competition tables, a color symbolic of Qatar. Al Mohannadi noted that tables have traditionally been black, green, or blue for 99 years, but maroon will now be a new standard for future events.

Steve Dainton, CEO of ITTF, praised the open-air draw ceremony and thanked Al Mohannadi, the Qatari federation, and the organizing committee for their efforts. He encouraged fans to visit Qatar to enjoy highly competitive matches, highlighting strong ticket demand as a sign of the event's popularity.

Mounir Bessah, ITTF Events Director, commended the decision to hold the draw in a public venue, noting that it engaged fans successfully. With at least 7,000 spectators expected daily in Lusail Arena, and tickets for opening and closing ceremonies already sold out, this edition is set to be memorable.

Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Saleh, chair of the tournament operations committee, expressed satisfaction with the ceremony, calling it the perfect start. Thousands watched the draw live on various platforms, and he highlighted Qatar's pride in hosting the World Championships for a second time after 21 years. He noted the organizing team's dedication and eagerness to welcome the world's top players and fans, particularly from China, South Korea, and Japan. Dr. Saleh concluded by thanking the Qatar Olympic Committee, the Ministry of Sports and Youth, local sponsors, and partners for their role in ensuring the event's success.
