The State of Qatar affirmed that the family remains the ideal natural environment in which healthy children can grow up enjoying all their rights, stressing that the interest in building a strong and cohesive family, and its protection by the state and society, is a mainstay for protecting the rights of all its members, especially children.
This came in the statement of the State of Qatar, delivered by the Third Secretary of the International Organizations Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Abdallah Almaadeed, before the 49th regular session of the Human Rights Council, during the annual full-day meeting on “The rights of the child and family reunification” under item 2.
Almaadeed stressed that in the context of the rights of children to live in a safe and sound family environment, reunification with their families is indispensable to ensure their development and achieve their best interests, and this commitment becomes a necessity in cases where children need protection, especially in the context of urgent humanitarian situations such as armed conflict.
He added that the issue of reuniting children with their families has received great attention from the State of Qatar, which has been keen, through its international humanitarian efforts, especially in Afghanistan, to pay special attention to the most vulnerable group of children, and has worked to provide protection and care for them.
He pointed out that the State of Qatar, based on its humanitarian duty, is currently hosting a large number of Afghan refugees whom it has evacuated from Afghanistan.
