Doha: The Qatar Air Sports Committee (QASC) honored the members of its Parachuting Display Team, who recently set a Guinness World Record, during a ceremony coinciding with the 47th World Parachuting Championship (CISM 2025) currently underway in Doha.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Qatari team earned this prestigious accolade by organizing the largest military parachute fireworks display, a feat that included intricate parachute firework formations crafted to meet globally recognized standards. The record-breaking event, which featured 37 jumpers and a pyrotechnic payload of 55.89 kg, took place last August in Zephyr Hills, USA.
Distinguished attendees at the ceremony included HE Commander of the Joint Special Forces and Chair of QASC, Brig. Gen. Mohammed bin Zayed Al Otaibi, and Vice Chairperson of the QASC, Lt. Col. Abdullah Saeed Al Mansouri. During the event, gold medals and certificates were presented to the team members, marking a significant achievement for the Qatari team, which is now recognized as the best squad globally after setting this record for the fifth time in Guinness, further establishing them as exceptional ambassadors in global forums.
In a related development, the organizing committee has opted to postpone today's competitions due to unstable weather conditions, which have affected the ability of pilots and skydivers to carry out their attempts on the fourth day of the tournament. This decision was made in consultation with the International Military Sports Council (CISM), and competitions are set to resume tomorrow, Wednesday, pending stabilization of the weather conditions following this force majeure situation.
