Doha: Qatar Airways has announced a landmark agreement with Boeing and GE Aerospace, marking a significant milestone in its fleet expansion strategy. This historic deal includes the purchase of widebody jets from Boeing and a comprehensive engine agreement with GE Aerospace. According to Qatar News Agency, Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Stephanie Pope expressed her honor over Qatar Airways' record-breaking order. The deal is set to fortify Qatar Airways' future fleet centered around Boeing's widebody airplane family, with the construction of 787s and 777s expected to span into the next decade. Currently, Qatar Airways operates over 150 Boeing aircraft, including 777 and 787 passenger jets and 777 Freighters. With this new order, Qatar Airways will emerge as the largest Dreamliner operator in the Middle East. The agreements with GE Aerospace emphasize the company's commitment to Qatar's burgeoning aviation industry. This addition to their previous order of 188 GE9X engines brings the total to 248 engines, further complemented by the inclusion of GEnx engines for the Boeing 787 fleet. These deals also incorporate service agreements for the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of the GEnx and GE9X engines, reinforcing Qatar Airways' focus on efficiency and performance. Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer Al Meer highlighted the airline's trust in GE Aerospace's engine performance to power their Boeing 777-9 and 787 aircraft. He emphasized the importance of these next-generation engines in maintaining a modern and efficient fleet, aligning with Qatar Airways' future ambitions and ongoing partnership with GE Aerospace. GE Aerospace Chairman and CEO, H. Lawrence Culp, Jr., expressed gratitude towards Qatar Airways for their trust, acknowledging this as the largest widebody engine deal for GE Aerospace. He praised the engineering excellence of the GE9X and GEnx engines, known for their durability and reliability over long distances. The strategic orders with Boeing and GE Aerospace are set to s trengthen Qatar Airways' position as a leader in the aviation industry, ensuring a modern fleet equipped to meet future demands.
