Qatar and Jordan Strengthen Cultural Ties Through New Agreements

Amman: Bilateral relations between the State of Qatar and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan continue to flourish, with cultural cooperation serving as a model of collaboration between the two nations, rooted in their historical ties.

According to Qatar News Agency, these relations are bolstered by aligned political visions, placing Qatar and Jordan at the forefront of cultural influence both regionally and internationally.

The partnership between Qatar and Jordan is characterized by integration and mutual respect, guided by the wisdom of their leaderships. This collaboration enriches the cultural landscape and fortifies the Arab cultural identity. Recent agreements and partnerships have further advanced these bilateral cultural relations.

This year, a cultural cooperation agreement was signed between the two countries, encompassing coordination and joint exchange in cultural and artistic arenas. The agreement was signed by HE Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Jordan, Sheikh Saud bin Nasser bin Jassim Al-Thani, and HE Minister of Culture of Jordan, Ali Al Ayed. It aims to deepen fraternal relations and cooperation, enhancing bonds in joint Arab action.

The cultural cooperation between Qatar and Jordan dates back to 1972, followed by an executive program for cultural cooperation in the mid-1990s. A new cultural cooperation agreement was signed in June 2021, emphasizing cultural and artistic collaboration, including cooperation between national libraries and participation in international book fairs.

Qatar and Jordan engage in a robust exchange of manuscripts, publications, and scientific information. Their collaboration extends to the restoration of manuscripts, joint library training, and the participation of Jordanian publishing houses in the Doha International Book Fair, with reciprocal Qatari participation in the Amman International Book Fair, where Qatar was a guest of honor.

Qatar's participation in the Amman International Book Fair featured a rich cultural program, reflecting its cultural scene and strengthening ties between Jordanian publishers and Qatari cultural institutions. This collaboration also extends to joint work through the International Publishers Association and the Arab Publishers Association, where Jordan holds significant positions.

Qatar's Ministry of Culture participated in the 37th Jerash Festival of Culture and Arts, attracting numerous visitors interested in Qatari culture. Jordanian intellectuals have received several Qatari literary awards, demonstrating the strong cultural exchange between the two nations.

Over the years, artistic performances, including theater and musical concerts, have been exchanged during significant cultural events in both countries. These include Doha as the Arab Capital of Culture in 2010, Doha as the Capital of Culture in the Islamic World in 2021, and Irbid as the Arab Capital of Culture in 2022. Additionally, popular bands have been featured at Qatar's Souq Waqif Spring Festival, further showcasing the cultural collaboration between Qatar and Jordan.
