Doha: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) of Qatar has entered into a significant contract with the Ministry of Intellectual Property of South Korea and the Korea Intellectual Property Strategy Agency (KISTA). This initiative aims to enhance Qatar's intellectual property ecosystem and foster an innovation-friendly environment within the nation.
According to Qatar News Agency, the contract was signed by Mohammed bin Hassan Al Malki, Undersecretary of MOCI, representing Qatar. On the Korean side, Yong Sun Kim, Minister of Intellectual Property, and Byeongsoo Yoon, President of KISTA, signed the agreement. The signing ceremony was attended by various officials from both countries, highlighting the importance of the partnership.
The agreement underscores the mutual commitment of Qatar and South Korea to bolster cooperation in intellectual property. This collaboration is expected to build national capacities in Qatar by leveraging Korea's expertise in developing strategies that support innovation.
KISTA is tasked with designing a comprehensive national strategic plan for intellectual property in Qatar. This plan will involve an analysis of the current environment and the establishment of a vision, objectives, strategic priorities, and performance indicators.
The initiative marks a strategic move towards establishing an integrated national framework for intellectual property in Qatar. The framework is anticipated to boost the country's economic competitiveness and aid in its transition towards a knowledge- and innovation-based economy, aligning with Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Third National Development Strategy.
