Doha: HE Minister of Municipality Abdullah bin Hamad bin Abdullah Al Attiyah and HE Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, Mario Lubetkin, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in agriculture and food security. This agreement highlights the commitment of both nations to reinforce bilateral relations and support sustainable agricultural development.
According to Qatar News Agency, the signing of the memorandum is rooted in the recognition by both countries of the agricultural sector's role in economic development, food security enhancement, and improving quality of life. It emphasizes the value of exchanging expertise, knowledge, and technology in line with international law, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) agreements, and existing laws and regulations in both nations.
The MoU seeks to boost joint cooperation in agriculture and food security, specifically through the exchange of information, expertise, and technical personnel. It also includes organizing conferences, seminars, and training programs. Areas of collaboration include livestock management, artificial insemination, feed production, live animal trade, modern agricultural technologies, and scientific research in agriculture and food security. Additionally, it covers cooperation in intensive horticulture, fisheries, and the sharing of relevant statistical data.
The agreement encourages the development of innovative mechanisms for agricultural cooperation by pooling resources, implementing joint training programs, and expanding agricultural markets. This initiative aims to contribute to stable and sustainable agricultural development.
A joint working group will be formed under the Memorandum, comprising representatives from both countries. This group will monitor the implementation of the MoU's provisions, propose suitable programs and mechanisms, evaluate progress, and provide recommendations to strengthen cooperation in agriculture and food security.
