Doha: The Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF) has announced its plans to organize Girls' Buds Festivals for the upcoming 2025-2026 sports season. This initiative is part of the federation's ongoing efforts to expand the base of sports practitioners and enhance the development of women's basketball in Qatar.
According to Qatar News Agency, these weekly festivals will be held on Saturdays and will be supervised by a specialized technical committee. The festivals aim to discover early talents and hone the skills of young female players in an organized, competitive, and safe environment. Events are scheduled to take place at the QBF hall, following an approved schedule.
The festivals are set to commence on January 10, 2026, with subsequent events planned for January 17, 24, and 31. The season will conclude on February 10, 2026, coinciding with the Qatar National Sports Day. This initiative is designed to promote sportsmanship and celebrate an active, healthy lifestyle within the community.
The federation has dedicated these festivals to female players born between 2014 and 2019. This effort aims to build a strong base of promising players, ensuring the continued development of the game locally, and supporting national teams in the future.
The federation emphasizes the necessity for participating teams to comply with the approved administrative conditions. These include submitting player lists before each festival, having ten players per team, and ensuring the presence of a coach and a supervisor, to facilitate optimal organization and necessary technical support.
The Technical Committee of the QBF oversees the technical and organizational aspects of the festivals. This includes approving logos and organizing team distribution on the court, which contributes to achieving the festivals' technical and educational objectives.
