Doha: Al Rayyan defeated Qatar SC 97-86 in their opening-round matchup of the Qatar Basketball League. Despite the loss, Qatar SC's Janic was named the game's Most Valuable Player after scoring 26 points. Al Rayyan's Rolands Freimanis led his team with 24 points and played a decisive role in securing the win. Al Rayyan earned two points from the victory, while Qatar SC collected one point. According to Qatar News Agency, in another match, Al Sadd overcame Al Wakrah 91-83 in a tightly contested game that saw both teams trade control until Al Sadd pulled ahead in the final minutes. Al Sadd also earned two points, with Al Wakrah taking one. Stephen Green of Al Sadd was named MVP of the match, scoring 28 points and delivering a well-rounded performance on both offense and defense. Al Wakrah's standout was Kamara, who contributed 23 points. The first round continues on Wednesday, with Al Shamal facing Al Khor in the opening game, followed by Al Ahli versus Al Gharafa. Defending champions Al Arabi are on a bye th is round due to their participation in the West Asia Super League (WASL). They begin their group-stage campaign against Kuwait SC on Tuesday evening in Kuwait, as part of the Gulf region competition.
