Qatar Cabinet Approves New Animal Health Law and Establishes Medical Committee for Lekhwiya

Doha: HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Affairs Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan Al-Thani chaired the Cabinet's regular meeting at the Amiri Diwan. The meeting opened with a welcome for the outcomes of the Seventh Strategic Dialogue between Qatar and the United States, an event highlighting the strong bilateral relations and cooperative efforts for regional and global security and stability.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Cabinet commended the results of the Doha Declaration 2025, which emerged from the Eleventh Session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption. Discussions during the session emphasized the role of artificial intelligence in combating corruption and the importance of international cooperation to tackle transnational financial crimes.

During the session, the Cabinet approved a draft law on animal health, which updates and replaces Law No. 1 of 1985. This initiative, prepared by the Ministry of Municipality, aims to address current developments in the field. Additionally, a draft decision was approved to establish a Medical Committee for the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) to oversee medical evaluations and treatments for its members.

The Cabinet also endorsed a draft decision concerning training courses and alternatives for employees eligible for promotion as well as a draft MoU with Turkmenistan to enhance training and capacity building for customs officials. The meeting concluded with reviews of reports on the Minister of Labor's visit to Sweden and participation in the Qatar-Pakistan Joint Ministerial Commission session in Islamabad, with appropriate measures taken on these fronts.
