Doha: Qatar Charity has delivered food parcels to 2,840 of the hardest-hit families in northeastern Somalia, reaching more than 17,000 people.
According to Qatar News Agency, the assistance is intended to help save lives, meet essential needs, and reduce the risk of malnutrition among the most vulnerable groups.
Distributions covered communities severely affected by successive drought spells, including Las Anod district and four surrounding villages, as well as Taleh, Hudun, and Buuhoodle. Priority was given to the most vulnerable families, especially children, older people, and pregnant women.
Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management in Somalia's northern State, Mohamed Deeri Fareh, praised Qatar Charity's efforts, expressing gratitude for the support extended by the people of Qatar. He emphasized the importance of such interventions in saving lives and alleviating the suffering of communities during these challenging times.
Governor of Sool Region, Osman Hussein Darod, highlighted that delivering aid to the most affected areas showcases a needs-based response to local communities. He commended the humanitarian support from Qatar, noting its vital role in easing hardship and enhancing resilience and livelihood stability.
Director of Qatar Charity's office in Somalia, Abdul Fattah Adam Moalim, stated that this project is part of the emergency response plan Qatar Charity is implementing in Somalia. He reaffirmed the organization's commitment to continuing humanitarian assistance efforts in collaboration with local and international partners.
