Casablanca: Qatar raised its total medal tally to 11 at the Arab Table Tennis Championship, following a successful performance in the penultimate day of the tournament, currently held in Casablanca, Morocco. The championship concludes tomorrow with the individual finals across all age categories.
According to Qatar News Agency, Team Qatar added six new medals in the doubles competitions-two golds and four silvers-to complement the five medals previously secured in the team events (one gold, two silvers, and two bronzes). In the Under-11 category, the Qatari duo of Rabia Al Kuwari and Mubarak Al Mansouri clinched the gold medal with a dominant 3-0 victory over Saudi Arabia's Waleed Al Harbi and Rayan Al Munjoumi in the final. The pair had already won gold in the team event earlier in the competition.
The medal ceremony was conducted by President of the Kuwait Table Tennis Federation Falehan Al Otaibi, and Vice President of the Bahrain Table Tennis Federation Ali Al Madhah. In the Under-17 category, Sultan Al Kuwari and Ahmed Eid added a second gold to Qatar's haul after overcoming the UAE pair Ali Al Huwai and Hamad Al Hashimi with a 3-1 victory in the final. Awards were presented by Secretary-General of the Arab Table Tennis Federation Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Al Saleh, and Vice President of the UAE Table Tennis Federation Ibrahim Al Asam.
In the women's doubles, Aya Mohammed and Maryam Ali claimed the silver medal after a narrow 2-3 loss to Jordan's Tima Abu Yamen and Rinad Al Hasani in a closely contested final. In the men's doubles, Mohammed Abdulwahab and Abdullah Abdulwahab earned silver after falling to Saudi Arabia's Ali Al Khudrawi and Abdulaziz Bushlaibi with a score of 1-3. In the Under-19 youth category, the Qatari pair Rawad Al Nasser and Youssef bin Abdullah also took silver, following a loss to a strong Moroccan team in the final.
The fourth silver came in the mixed doubles, where Aya Mohammed and Mohammed Abdulwahab were defeated by Jordanian siblings Zaid Abu Yamen and Tima Abu Yamen in the final. With a total of 11 medals, including three golds, Qatar's participation in the Arab Table Tennis Championship has been marked by strong individual and team performances across age groups and categories. The team now looks ahead to the final day of competition, where further individual accolades may still be within reach.
