Qatar Defeats Saudi Arabia at Asian U-17 Handball Championship

Amman: The Qatar U-17 handball team defeated Saudi Arabia (27-23) on Wednesday in the 1st Asian Men's U-17 Handball Championship taking place in Jordan, Amman until September 25.

According to Qatar News Agency, the championship serves as a qualification tournament for the 1st IHF Men's U-17 Handball World Championship, scheduled to take place in Morocco from October 24 to November 1, 2025. With this victory, Qatar topped Group B with four points, while Saudi Arabia placed second with two points.

Qatar had also won its opening match on Tuesday against China (38-24), securing qualification to the main round of the championship. The 1st Asian Men's U-17 Handball Championship features 13 teams divided into four groups: Group A includes Kuwait, Bahrain, and Hong Kong, Group C includes Jordan, Chinese Taipei, and India, and Group D includes South Korea, Iran, Syria, and the Maldives.

The top two teams from each group advance to the main round, where the eight qualifiers will be split into two groups of four. The first and second place finishers in each group will then qualify for the semifinals. The top two teams from the championship will represent Asia at the inaugural IHF U-17 Men's Handball World Championship in Morocco.
