Qatar Denounces Israeli Attack, Urges Global Action to Uphold Sovereignty

Doha: Sunday's editorials in Qatar's press have spotlighted Qatar's resolute actions to confront and condemn the Israeli attack on its territory on September 9, which Doha has described as a blatant violation of its sovereignty and a breach of international law. The editorials emphasized Qatar's commitment to taking all necessary measures to safeguard its territorial integrity and to hold the aggressors accountable.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Qatari newspapers highlighted the country's diplomatic efforts, including a message delivered to the President of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) regarding the armed attack on residential compounds in Doha. The attack resulted in casualties and injuries and was labeled a violation of both Qatar's sovereignty and the Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation. The diplomatic steps underline Qatar's stance that the aggression breaches international humanitarian law and human rights law, especially given the targeting of a densely populated civilian area.

The editorial from Al-Watan, titled "Diplomatic Moves," discussed the appeal by HE Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah, Chairperson of the National Human Rights Committee, to the League of Arab States to support efforts to expose Israel's violations. The editorial also noted the dangerous precedent set by the Israeli strike, warning that targeting a mediator country could undermine diplomatic efforts and lead to further escalation.

Al-Raya, in its editorial "Arab Human Rights Efforts to Expose Israel's Violations Against Qatar," reiterated Qatar's denunciation of the Israeli assault as a gross violation of sovereignty and security. The paper emphasized the need for accountability and highlighted Qatar's ongoing efforts, supported by international solidarity, to address the aggression.

Both editorials stressed the importance of collective Arab action and urged the Arab League to support UN efforts to de-escalate tensions and eliminate the culture of impunity. Qatar's call for collective action underscores its commitment to international peace and security in the face of violations.
