Qatar Embraces AI as Key Driver for Economic and Social Transformation

Doha: The State of Qatar is making significant strides in integrating artificial intelligence (AI) across various sectors as part of its Digital Agenda 2030, which aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030 (QNV 2030). This strategic move aims to boost efficiency, improve service quality, and promote digital inclusion throughout the nation.

According to Qatar News Agency, the establishment of the Artificial Intelligence Committee in 2021 marked a pivotal step in advancing AI adoption in Qatar. The committee, formed under the Council of Ministers, has been pivotal in implementing the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy. Its responsibilities include coordinating AI-related projects among government entities, developing national talent, supporting startups, and establishing strategic international partnerships.

The committee's efforts have positioned Qatar as a proactive player in the global AI landscape, focusing on sustainable and innovative futures. Representatives from various ministries and institutions collaborate to integrate AI across different sectors, promoting economic growth and enhancing government services through digital transformation.

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology spearheads Qatar's AI initiatives, supporting startups and fostering innovation through various programs like the Digital Business Incubation Center and the TASMU Accelerator. Qatar's commitment to AI was further highlighted at the Global AI Summit Qatar 2025, where Minister Mohammed bin Ali Al Mannai underscored AI's role as a strategic necessity for the country's future.

Qatar's National Artificial Intelligence Strategy aims to integrate AI into public policies, enhancing institutional performance and decision-making. It focuses on building an advanced digital infrastructure to attract global investments and nurture national competencies. Initiatives like the 'GovAI' program aim to balance innovation with responsibility, fostering AI-driven solutions in government entities.

Qatar is also developing AI-enhanced systems across various ministries, including personalized learning platforms, smart tendering systems, and predictive analytics for labor market governance. The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology is working towards an AI-based future, focusing on transparency, security, and ethical responsibility while ensuring digital transformation benefits all societal segments.

Recent partnerships with global companies have bolstered Qatar's AI capabilities, with agreements focusing on cloud infrastructure, smart educational solutions, and digital governance. The launch of Qai, a national AI technology company, further underscores Qatar's commitment to building a knowledge-based economy.

Qatar's emphasis on AI extends to generative AI projects, such as the Fanar platform for the Arabic language, developed by the Qatar Computing Research Institute. This project highlights Qatar's ambition to become a regional hub for AI, leveraging its strategic investments in digital infrastructure and advanced networks.

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology's recent collaboration with PwC Middle East and OpenAI aims to develop an integrated national AI ecosystem, focusing on infrastructure, practical applications, and innovative solutions to enhance operational efficiency and service quality.
