Qatar Engages in Global Dialogue to Combat Child Labour

Marrakesh: The State of Qatar, through its Ministry of Labour, took part in the 6th Global Conference on the Elimination of Child Labour held in Marrakesh, Morocco. This significant event saw participation from representatives of the International Labour Organization (ILO), various governments, employers' and workers' organisations, civil society, and other major international stakeholders.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Qatari delegation was headed by HE Minister of Labour Dr. Ali bin Samikh Al Marri. The three-day event, spanning from February 11 to 13, aimed at enhancing international cooperation, promoting dialogue, and fostering collaboration among governments, regional and global institutions, civil society, and the private sector. It provided a platform for sharing evidence-based strategies, successful national experiences, and effective practices in the global effort to eliminate child labour.

The conference's primary objective was to bolster high-level political commitment and encourage the incorporation of child labour issues into national policies concerning development, education, social protection, and the labour market. Discussions at the conference centered on key thematic priorities such as the promotion of quality, inclusive education and strong social protection systems, recognising these as vital safeguards against child exploitation.

Participants also considered sustainable, long-term solutions, highlighting the importance of providing decent work opportunities for adults and promoting local economic development, especially in vulnerable and rural sectors like agriculture.
