Riyadh: The State of Qatar participated in the Global Symposium for Regulators 2025 (GSR-25), organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in collaboration with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The event was hosted by the Saudi Communications, Space and Technology Commission from August 31 to September 3, 2025, at the King Abdul Aziz International Conference Center in Riyadh.
According to Qatar News Agency, Qatar was represented by a delegation from the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) led by its President, Eng. Ahmad bin Abdulla Al Muslemani. The symposium, themed "Regulation for Sustainable Digital Development," gathered regulators, policymakers, and digital stakeholders globally. It aimed to facilitate a regulatory dialogue to form guiding principles for best practices in telecommunications regulation, with participation from over 190 countries. The event provided a platform for exchanging expertise and aligning perspectives on key digital policy and regulatory issues.
The GSR-25 program included an Executive Roundtable of Heads of Regulators focusing on enabling regulators as digital ecosystem builders and an Executive Masterclass on strategic foresight for Artificial Intelligence (AI) collaborative frameworks. Sessions were organized under themes such as collaborate, connect, trust, protect, include, empower, sustain, and innovate, addressing secure infrastructure, consumer protection, digital inclusion, skills development, and sustainable growth. Interactive high-level panels also discussed policy and regulatory issues.
President of CRA Eng. Ahmad bin Abdulla Al Muslemani emphasized Qatar's commitment to international cooperation in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector. He highlighted the importance of exchanging expertise to support local sector development in line with Qatar National Vision 2030 and CRA's strategy for sustainable development.
In his role as the Chair-Designate of the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference 2026 (PP-26), Eng. Ahmad bin Abdulla Al Muslemani held meetings with ITU member state delegations and ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin. These discussions focused on mutual ICT interests and preparations for the upcoming conference in Doha.
