CAIRO: The State of Qatar has actively participated in the 4th high-level ministerial conference on women, peace, and security, which recently concluded at the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States' headquarters in Cairo. The significant event, held in partnership with UN Women, aimed at enhancing protection and developing a comprehensive response to the needs of women in conflict zones. According to Qatar News Agency, the Qatari delegation was led by Fahd bin Mohammed Al Khayareen, Assistant Undersecretary for Social Development Affairs at the Ministry of Social Development and Family. The two-day conference served as a crucial platform to highlight the challenges faced by women in conflict areas and to formulate effective strategies for their protection and empowerment. Key discussions revolved around the suffering of women, human rights violations under Israeli occupation, wars, armed conflicts, instability, and the associated challenges and opportunities related to women and development. The c onference also focused on efforts to support women within the peace and security agenda. The event saw the participation of ministers, heads of women's affairs mechanisms in Arab countries, senior figures from international and regional organizations, representatives from relevant UN agencies, and numerous experts and specialists. Additionally, representatives from institutions concerned with women and peace issues from around the world attended the conference. The timing of the conference was particularly significant as it coincided with the 25th anniversary of the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 1325. This resolution underscores the essential role of women in achieving peace and security globally.
