Doha: The State of Qatar participated in the 10th Belt and Road Summit held in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, focusing on the theme "Collaborate for change, Shape a shared future." The Qatari delegation was led by HE Minister of State for Foreign Trade at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Sayed. According to Qatar News Agency, the Ministry underscored that Qatar's involvement in the summit signifies its continuous commitment to enhancing international cooperation and expanding trade and investment partnerships, addressing global economic challenges while promoting comprehensive and sustainable development. During a panel discussion, HE the Minister highlighted the summit's pivotal role in fostering economic collaboration and exploring integration and partnership opportunities amid rapid global changes. HE the Minister pointed out the robust bilateral relations between Qatar and the People's Republic of China, Qatar's leading trading partner, emphasizing the significa nt growth in trade with the Hong Kong region, where trade volume has doubled in the last two years. He also stressed the need to strengthen economic, commercial, and technical cooperation between Qatar and Hong Kong to solidify their economic ties further. Current global challenges, such as slowing economic growth, declining global trade, and supply chain disruptions, necessitate increased international coordination and joint action, he remarked. Guided by its National Vision 2030, Qatar has been working to improve its investment climate through updated economic legislation, public-private partnerships, and opening its markets to international investments. These efforts aim to advance sustainable development goals both nationally and globally. On the sidelines of the summit, HE Dr. Al Sayed held several bilateral meetings with key figures, including HE Chief Executive of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region John Lee and HE Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Algernon Yau, among others, to expl ore cooperation opportunities and enhance economic, trade, and investment partnerships. HE Dr. Al Sayed also visited the Qatar Pavilion at the summit's accompanying exhibition and the pavilions of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, and various international companies to gain insights into the latest investment and technological initiatives.
