Qatar Facilitates Detainee Swap Between US and Afghanistan

Doha: The State of Qatar announced the successful facilitation of a detainee swap between the United States of America and Afghanistan.

According to Qatar News Agency, HE Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi, revealed that Qatar's efforts led to the release of two American citizens detained in Afghanistan, in exchange for an Afghan citizen detained in the United States. All individuals involved in the swap arrived in Doha, with necessary arrangements made for their return to their respective countries.

Dr. Al Khulaifi expressed gratitude towards both the Afghan Caretaker Government and the United States Government for their cooperation in facilitating the detainee swap. He emphasized Qatar's hope that this agreement would foster further understandings to resolve disputes peacefully.

The Minister highlighted the success of this detainee swap as evidence of Qatar's reliability as a partner on regional and international stages. He noted Qatar's effective role in promoting peace, security, and stability globally.

Dr. Al Khulaifi also underscored that Qatar's foreign policy focuses on constructive dialogue to bridge differences. He cited previous successes in Qatari diplomacy and mediation, including humanitarian efforts and family reunifications. He pointed out Qatar's innovative diplomatic solutions in addressing crises, such as its involvement in reaching a ceasefire deal in the Gaza Strip and facilitating detainee exchanges.

His Excellency reiterated Qatar's steadfast support for the Afghan people and its continuous efforts to achieve security, stability, and prosperity in Afghanistan.
