Gumi: Qatar's athletics team wrapped up its participation in the 26th Asian Athletics Championships in Gumi, South Korea, securing a fifth-place finish overall with six medals: three gold, one silver, and two bronze. The championships ran from May 27 to June 1. According to Qatar News Agency, the gold medals were earned by Abdalrahman Samba in the 400-meter hurdles, Ammar Ismail in the 400-meter race, and the 4x400-meter relay team, which consisted of Abdalrahman Samba, Ammar Ismail, Bassem Hemeida, and Hatem Hameed. Bassem Hemeida also secured the silver medal in the 400-meter hurdles. The two bronze medals went to Abubaker Abdalla in the 800-meter race and Zakaria Ibrahim in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Qatar's contingent at the event included 17 athletes competing in various disciplines, among them a number of promising young talents. The championship drew 2,000 athletes representing 43 Asian countries. China led the medal standings with 32 medals, followed by India with 24, Japan with 23, and Kazakhst an in fourth place with six medals. This year's performance at the 26th Asian Championships marks Qatar's second-best showing in the last two decades. Their strongest outing was at the 21st edition in Wuhan, China, in 2015, where the Qatari team finished second overall with 10 medals, including seven golds.
