Geneva: The State of Qatar has reiterated its firm stance against any attempts to diminish or terminate the role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). Qatar has urged the international community to provide comprehensive support for humanitarian plans and operations that aid Palestinian refugees and displaced individuals, thereby alleviating their suffering and ensuring they lead dignified lives. According to Qatar News Agency, this declaration was made by Abdulaziz Mohammed Al Mansoori, the Third Secretary of Qatar's permanent delegation in Geneva, during the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) annual Pledging Conference. Al Mansoori emphasized Qatar's commitment to supporting UN efforts and agencies in aiding refugees worldwide, driven by a belief in humanitarian responsibility and international solidarity. Al Mansoori highlighted the UNHCR's Global Appeal for 2025, underscoring the severe crisis faced by approximately 140 million r efugees and displaced persons globally. He called for steadfast international coordination and support for humanitarian and development efforts, as well as solutions to conflicts causing displacement. Qatar condemned the aggression by Israeli forces against Palestinians, including attacks on camps and facilities run by UNRWA. Al Mansoori warned that such actions risk regional instability with global repercussions. He mentioned Qatar's launch of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Legacy Fund, in partnership with FIFA, to support programs for refugees and displaced persons. The fund aims to aid millions of displaced individuals by enhancing their self-sufficiency and social inclusion. Al Mansoori also detailed Qatar's financial commitments, including an $8 million agreement with UNHCR and a $5 million grant for improving conditions in Ukraine, as well as education projects for refugee children in several countries. Al Mansoori reaffirmed Qatar's dedication to supporting UNHCR's global humanitarian efforts and imp roving responses to increasing refugee crises.
