Qatar Foundation Celebrates Success of Herfah Program’s Inaugural Year

Doha: Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development announced on Monday the conclusion of the inaugural edition of the Herfah program, an initiative that highlights the richness of Qatari artistry and Islamic crafts. The event was graced by the presence of HE Vice Chairperson of Qatar Foundation Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al-Thani.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Herfah program, a partnership between Qatar Foundation and The King's Foundation School of Traditional Arts, successfully celebrated its first year by promoting and engaging the community in Qatari artistry. The program, which is based at Al Khater House in Education City, is set to launch its second year with continued offerings such as a year-long traditional crafts program, short-term courses, and Ramadan workshops, all available to the public.

The inaugural year concluded with a showcase of creative works by the graduates of its intensive program at Al Khater House. The second-year program will commence in September, with registration starting in July. Applicants, who must be at least 18 years old and have prior craft experience, can enroll through the Education City website and Qatar Foundation's social media channels.

In its first year, Herfah engaged over 200 participants in hands-on learning and creative exploration. HE Sheikha Hind emphasized the program's mission to not only preserve traditional skills but also to foster an educational environment that appreciates craftsmanship and promotes a deeper understanding of well-made creations.

Kholoud M. Al-Ali, Executive Director Community Engagement and Programming at Qatar Foundation, stated that Herfah aims to enhance appreciation of Qatari and Islamic cultural heritage while establishing Al Khater House as a hub for tradition, innovation, and cultural learning. Al-Ali expressed excitement about the program's progress and its expanding impact.

She further mentioned that Qatar Foundation, through initiatives like Herfah, plays a crucial role in cultural preservation and the promotion of Qatar's rich heritage. As the foundation celebrates its 30th anniversary, these efforts are pivotal in strengthening community connections and ensuring the transmission of cultural traditions to future generations.
