Doha: Al-Arab, in its editorial "Qatar and Germany: Friendship and Partnership," described the German Chancellor's visit to Doha as an important opportunity to strengthen bilateral cooperation and elevate it to broader levels, particularly in light of Germany's stated keenness to enhance economic and investment relations.
According to Qatar News Agency, the newspaper highlighted economic and investment cooperation as a cornerstone of the strategic relationship, noting that Qatari investments in Germany exceed 25 billion euros, making Germany one of the leading destinations for Qatari investments in Europe. It also cited Qatar's stakes in major German companies, including Volkswagen, Deutsche Bank, and Siemens, as well as a trade volume of approximately QR 6.6 billion in 2024. The paper added that more than 300 German companies operate in Qatar across sectors such as energy, construction, and railways.
Al-Arab concluded that Qatar-Germany relations rest on solid foundations of trust, mutual respect, and shared interests, supported by continuous dialogue and coordination on regional and international issues, in addition to numerous agreements and memoranda of understanding and a joint committee for trade, economic, and technical cooperation.
In its editorial titled "A Historic Friendship and a Strategic Partnership," Al-Watan noted that Qatar-Germany relations span more than five decades and encompass a comprehensive partnership across multiple sectors. The paper highlighted agreements covering energy, industry, trade, health, culture, sports, renewable energy, aviation, and air transport, as well as agreements on investment protection and the establishment of a joint trade and economic committee.
Al-Watan considered the talks between HH the Amir and the German Chancellor to have injected new momentum into bilateral relations, citing HH the Amir's remarks on the X platform praising the outcomes of strategic cooperation and expressing his aspiration to expand it further. The newspaper concluded by highlighting a recent agreement between the European School of Management and Technology (ESMT) in Berlin, the Qatar Investment Authority, and the Qatar Research, Development, and Innovation Council to establish a university affiliated with ESMT in Doha, aimed at strengthening the institute's global presence and advancing education in innovation and technology transfer.
For its part, English-language daily The Peninsula affirmed that the official talks between HH the Amir and the German Chancellor mark an important milestone in the steadily advancing relationship between Qatar and Germany. The visit, it said, reflects a mutual commitment by the leadership of both nations to elevate bilateral ties and broaden cooperation across a wide spectrum of sectors that serve shared economic, political, and strategic interests.
