New York:The State of Qatar emphasized its dedication to advancing social development, empowering women, and protecting children’s rights during a United Nations meeting. Amina Abdullah Salat, Third Secretary at Qatar’s Permanent Mission to the UN, delivered these remarks at the Third Committee meetings of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
According to Qatar News Agency, Salat addressed key agenda items, focusing on Qatar’s ongoing commitment to the global social development agenda. She highlighted Qatar’s hosting of major UN conferences, such as the Second World Summit for Social Development in Doha, which resulted in the Doha Political Declaration. Qatar has made considerable progress in its National Vision 2030, and its Third National Development Strategy 2024-2030 sets the future framework for development. The Ministry of Social Development and Family’s National Strategy 2025-2030 aims to empower women, enhance inclusion for persons with disabilities, and support older persons.
Women’s empowerment remains a national priority, with Qatar emphasizing women’s rights and their role in development. Salat noted Qatar’s international initiatives, such as leading efforts for the UN General Assembly Resolution 75/274, recognizing March 10 as the International Day of Women Judges.
Qatar has also advanced children’s rights through legislative measures aligned with the Convention on the Rights of the Child. As a leading donor to the Office of the Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict and UNICEF, Qatar’s contributions underscore its commitment to collective action in protecting children’s rights.
Salat reaffirmed Qatar’s readiness to cooperate with the international community in these areas, reflecting its commitment to social development, women’s empowerment, and children’s rights.
