Qatar Hosts U18 Beach Volleyball World Championship as Main Draw Action Continues

Doha: The U18 Beach Volleyball World Championship continued for a second day in Doha, marking the first time the event is held in the Middle East. Matches are being played at Al Gharrafa Beach Courts, with the tournament running until October 11.

According to Qatar News Agency, Qatar's men's and women's teams played six matches in the main draw on Wednesday but suffered defeats across the board. Men's Team 1 lost to Turkiye, while Team 2 fell to Saudi Arabia. Both will face tough group fixtures on Thursday.

Women's Team 1 lost to the USA and Malaysia, while Team 2 was beaten by DR Congo and Gambia. Players will face Mexico and Canada respectively in their final group matches.

Qatari player Saad Al-Awad emphasized the importance of competing at this level, saying the tournament offers valuable experience and a chance to grow.

The championship features 64 teams (32 men's, 32 women's) from 55 countries, divided into eight groups per gender. Top teams advance to knockout rounds, with quarterfinals and semifinals set for Saturday and medal matches on Sunday.
