Qatar International Falcons and Hunting Festival Begins, Celebrating Cultural Legacy

SEALINE: The 16th edition of the Qatar International Falcons and Hunting Festival, known as Marmi 2025, commenced in the Marmi area of Sealine, with festivities scheduled to continue until February 1, 2025. The event is held under the patronage of HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani and backed by the Social and Sport Contribution Fund (DAAM), with organization by the Qatari Society of Algannas (AGQS).

According to Qatar News Agency, the festival launched with the Haddad Al-Tahaddi contest, featuring 23 groups in competition. The Farkh Shaheen falcons emerged victorious in the initial round, with another set of contests planned for Thursday. Marmi Festival chairman, Miteb Mubarak Al Qahtani, emphasized the festival’s role in nurturing a passion for falconry among younger generations, noting the significant turnout from visitors as evidence of the community’s vested interest in preserving this cultural tradition.

Al Qahtani highlighted the festival’s importance among major Qatari events, citing its success and
popularity within the Qatari and Gulf communities. Vice-chairman, Abdulwaheb bin Omair Al Nuaimi, echoed these sentiments, describing the festival as a prominent platform for supporting falconers and traditional hunting enthusiasts, marked by a record number of participants.

The festival not only attracts local citizens and residents but also draws foreign tourists eager to learn about the falconry legacy. Al Nuaimi assured that the organizing committee provides extensive amenities to ensure a pleasant experience for all visitors. Shawi Al Kaabi, Chairman of the Hadad Al Tahadi Committee, praised the falconers’ performances during the event’s early days, noting the large crowds that the Hadad Al Tahadi competition attracts.

Participants expressed their appreciation for the support from AGQS in fostering this unique cultural heritage. The festival’s primary aim is to promote falconry, a practice included on UNESCO’s heritage list, with Qatar being a pioneering nation in efforts to preserve this global herita
ge both domestically and internationally.
