Qatar Joins WorldSkills Asia During Taipei Assembly

Chinese taipei: The State of Qatar has officially joined the membership of WorldSkills Asia, following a unanimous vote during the organization's General Assembly meeting held in Chinese Taipei. This event coincided with the city's hosting of the WorldSkills Asia Competition 2025.

According to Qatar News Agency, the unanimous approval came after a presentation by the delegation of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, which highlighted key features of Qatar's educational system, particularly its vocational, technical, and specialized education pathways. This milestone marks an important step in Qatar's ongoing efforts to strengthen its vocational education and training sector and elevate the presence of national talent on regional and international platforms. It also aligns with the ministry's vision to enhance students' skills and prepare them for the future job market.

Qatar participated with a student delegation in the competition, held from 25 to 30 November, with the aim of enhancing applied skills and knowledge, improving the country's ranking in regional and global skills indices, and encouraging youth to pursue technical and technological disciplines. Qatari students competed in 16 skills categories, including cybersecurity, cloud computing, network cabling, welding, electronics, electrical installations, autonomous robotics, mechanical engineering drawing, graphic design, IT software solutions, painting and decoration, in addition to junior skills.

Student Jassim Mohammed Al Kubaisi achieved the delegation's highest score, earning recognition as the top competitor among the Qatari participants. The competitors' participation followed an intensive training and preparation program overseen by the ministry through technical and specialized schools. Students from several educational institutions took part, including Doha University for Science and Technology, Community College of Qatar, Qatar Technical Schools, Qatar Science and Technology Secondary School for Boys, and Qatar Banking Studies and Business Administration School.

This participation builds on Qatar's success in hosting and organizing the Gulf Skills Competition 2025 last October. The Ministry of Education and Higher Education affirmed that Qatar's accession to the organization reflects the state's commitment to supporting education, vocational and technical development, and empowering youth with the skills needed for the labor market. The ministry emphasized that this step enhances students' readiness for regional and international competition, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030 and its goal of building a knowledge-based economy.
