Qatar Launches Ambitious Transport Strategy for 2025-2030

Doha: In a significant development, HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani inaugurated the Ministry of Transport Strategy for 2025-2030 yesterday. The strategy, under the slogan "Reaching Beyond Horizons," marks an important milestone in Qatar's transportation sector, aligning with the leadership vision of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani.

According to Qatar News Agency, the strategy is founded on a vision to create an integrated, safe, flexible, and sustainable transportation system. It aims to lead the development of transportation with high logistical efficiency, supporting the Qatar National Vision. The strategy includes 125 projects derived from 42 initiatives, with investments surpassing QR 1.2 billion. Private sector participation stands at 40 percent, showcasing a robust partnership for national development.

The launch of the strategy coincides with notable achievements, such as Hamad International Airport (DOH) achieving a record by serving over five million passengers in August alone. This reflects Qatar's ambitious vision that continues to enhance its position and shape future growth and development.

Meanwhile, the Al-Watan newspaper highlighted the Prime Minister's inauguration of the strategy, emphasizing Qatar's ambition to strengthen its status as a leading regional and international hub. The strategy is seen as a roadmap to advance transportation infrastructure, driving economic growth, sustainability, and innovation through an integrated and resilient system.

The strategy also aims at improving public transport efficiency with reliable, comfortable, and eco-friendly services, connecting all areas of Qatar. It addresses the needs of all societal segments, including senior citizens and people with disabilities, extending the success achieved by the electric bus fleet now accounting for 73 percent of the public transport network.

In addition to transportation, Qatar's efforts in food security have been intensified. The country has expanded its strategic storage reserves, diversified import sources, and boosted international investments. The National Food Security Strategy 2030, launched last December, seeks to enhance food resilience with goals such as achieving 55% self-sufficiency in local vegetable production and increasing agricultural productivity by 50%. By 2030, Qatar aims for 100% self-sufficiency in dairy and fresh chicken production.

Qatar has made significant strides in food security, reaching self-sufficiency in fresh dairy products and poultry production, as noted by The Peninsula newspaper.
