Qatar Lays Foundation for World’s Largest Blue Ammonia Plant in Mesaieed.

Doha: Qatari newspapers have drawn attention in their editorials to HH the Deputy Amir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Thani's significant move of laying the foundation stone for the blue ammonia plant project in Mesaieed Industrial City. This project stands as the world's first and largest blue ammonia plant, boasting a production capacity of 1.2 million tons annually. According to Qatar News Agency, the newspapers stressed that the Blue Ammonia Plant project will propel Qatar into a new era, underscoring its dedication to transitioning towards low-carbon energy solutions and supplying energy globally for a shared sustainable future. The editorials also touched upon the success of diplomatic efforts leading to a ceasefire agreement between the Israeli entity and Lebanon, anticipated to take effect on Wednesday. Al-Raya newspaper articulated in its editorial the strategic importance of Qatar's role in providing low-carbon energy products as a commitment to the future of humanity. It emphasized Qatar's belief i n addressing climate change through international cooperation that balances economic development with climate goals. The country is committed to meeting the increasing global demand for clean and environmentally friendly energy. As part of its sustainability strategy, Qatar is investing in reducing the carbon intensity of its energy products. The editorial further highlighted the foundation stone laying by HH the Deputy Amir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Thani under the patronage of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani. The plant is set to commence production in the second quarter of 2026. Al-Raya noted that the facility will harness Qatari expertise in ammonia plant operations, achieved through collaboration between QatarEnergy and Qatar Fertiliser Company (QAFCO), reinforcing Qatar's clean energy strategy. Similarly, The Peninsula newspaper reported that QatarEnergy has initiated the construction of the blue ammonia plant, with an investment of QR4.4 billion. The newspaper emphasized the project's r ole in bolstering Qatar's economy and aligning with global carbon reduction goals through low-carbon ammonia production.
