Doha:The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change has emphasized the potential benefits of electronic waste (e-waste) recycling as a means to recover valuable materials and support industrial processes, thereby reducing the consumption of natural resources and aiding the transition to a circular economy. However, the ministry also pointed out that e-waste presents significant environmental challenges that necessitate increased awareness and responsible handling practices.
According to Qatar News Agency, the ministry’s statement, made in observance of International E-Waste Day on October 14, underlines the importance of proper e-waste management. The occasion is intended to promote public awareness regarding the recycling of discarded electronic devices, which contributes to environmental protection and sustainable development efforts in Qatar.
The ministry reiterated its dedication to fostering a culture of responsible consumption and sustainable environmental practices. It highlighted that recycling e-waste reduces the need for new raw materials, mitigates the environmental impact linked to the production of electronic devices, and aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030.
In an effort to involve the community in environmental conservation, the ministry introduced a service allowing residents to request e-waste collection from their homes. This initiative aims to encourage proper disposal of unused devices and ensure their transfer to suitable facilities for processing.
The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change urged individuals and institutions to help reduce e-waste by maintaining and repairing devices, reusing or donating functional equipment, and ensuring damaged devices are handed over to appropriate authorities. It stressed the importance of not disposing of electronic devices and batteries with regular household waste.
Concluding its statement, the ministry reaffirmed that environmental protection is a collective responsibility, requiring both government and community involvement to foster a sustainable culture and safeguard natural resources for future generations.
