Qatar Museums Announces Engaging February Lineup of Events and Workshops

Doha: Qatar Museums (QM) is set to welcome February with a dynamic array of cultural, educational, and artistic activities designed to engage families, children, and adults alike. This month’s lineup features hands-on workshops, storytelling sessions, immersive camps, and exclusive curator-led tours, offering visitors unique opportunities to explore art, heritage, and creativity in engaging ways.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) will offer a variety of engaging activities throughout February, catering to different age groups and interests. Story Time at MIA Library on February 3 will offer children and parents a bilingual storytelling session featuring the book “Pouch” by David Ezra Stein. The Planet Teens initiative on February 18 will connect the museum’s collections with environmental awareness, engaging young participants in discussions, creative crafts, and exploration of historical artifacts to promote sustainability. Additionally, a Family Day event on February 8 will invite families to discover the historical significance of sports at MIA Atrium, inspired by the museum’s extensive collection.

In collaboration with the future Lusail Museum, Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art will host a series of workshops and specialized tours as part of the “Seeing is Believing: The Art and Influence of Gerome” exhibition, running until February 22. The “Paint from the East – Acrylic for Beginners” workshop from February 13 to 17 will teach participants acrylic techniques inspired by Jean-Leon Gerome’s art and Eastern culture. Another workshop on February 15, “From Painting to Manuscripts,” is designed for ages 15-18 and explores the relationship between travel literature and visual arts, drawing inspiration from Gerome’s work. Lusail Museum will also offer specialized curatorial tours on February 6, 13, and 20, providing in-depth insights into Gerome’s life and artistic influence.

The 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum will focus on sports and health with interactive sessions for children and families. A storytelling session titled “Saad and the Magic Herb” will be held on February 22 for children aged 7-11, bringing Shaima Al-Harmouzi’s tale to life. On February 26, a workshop on “Staying Healthy and Energized During Ramadan” will feature expert-led cooking demonstrations on maintaining health and nutrition during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

M7 will offer workshops aimed at enhancing artistic and entrepreneurial skills. A Tote Bag Making and Designing workshop on February 1 will allow participants to create personalized tote bags. On February 5, a session on “Creating a Profit and Loss Sheet for Brands” will help creative entrepreneurs understand business expenses, revenue, and profitability. The “Create a Cyanotype Inspired by Outdoor Elements” workshop on February 15 will explore the historic cyanotype printing process.

For photography enthusiasts, Tasweer presents a masterclass on “Museum and Collections Photography with Khalifa Al Obaidly” on February 8 at Fire Station: Artist in Residence. This session will cover techniques for capturing museum objects with precision, focusing on lighting, composition, and texture.
