Qatar Museums Chairperson Inaugurates Fables in Fashion 2026 Exhibition at National Museum of Qatar

Doha:HE Chairperson of Qatar Museums, Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, officially opened the Fables in Fashion 2026 exhibition at the National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ). The inauguration was attended by HE Minister of State and President of Qatar National Library, Dr. Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari.

According to Qatar News Agency, the exhibition, presented by Qatar Reads—an initiative of Qatar National Library—aims to foster a culture of reading across Qatar. It translates Wahy Al-Qalam, a significant literary work by Egyptian writer Mustafa Sadiq Al-Rafi’i, into contemporary fashion and visual art. The exhibition is held in collaboration with NMoQ, with support from the Ministry of Culture, and will be open in Temporary Gallery 1 until November 28, 2026.

The Fables in Fashion 2026 exhibition is part of Qatar Reads’ One Book, One Doha 2026–2027 campaign, which encourages community-wide engagement with a single literary work over two years. The exhibition features contributions from seven fashion designers and 30 visual artists who have crafted original responses to Al-Rafi’i’s work through various artistic mediums.

The exhibition highlights the cultural atmosphere of early twentieth-century Egypt and unfolds in three interconnected environments that reflect the influences on Al-Rafi’i’s literary life. It provides a platform where literature, heritage, and contemporary creative practice intersect, offering new ways for audiences to engage with Al-Rafi’i’s work.

HE Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Hamad Al-Thani, Director of the National Museum of Qatar, expressed that the exhibition aligns with the museum’s mission to reimagine and share stories. Tan Huism, Executive Director of Qatar National Library, emphasized the ongoing impact of reading, while Fatema Al Malki, Manager of Qatar Reads, highlighted the exhibition’s role in sparking curiosity and engagement with Al-Rafi’i’s literature among visitors.
