Doha: Qatar National Library (QNL) is set to host a series of vibrant cultural activities throughout December in preparation for Qatar National Day. The events will include cultural and art performances, as well as family-oriented educational and entertaining programs aimed at celebrating Qatar's heritage and rich history. According to Qatar News Agency, the celebrations will commence on 1 December with a lecture on Beit Qatraei, an area that is integral to the history of Qatar. Dr. Mario Qazah will delve into the geographical boundaries of Beit Qatraei, the etymology of the word "Qatraei," and the region's historical commercial and social activities. On 2 December, QNL will launch its Winter Camp, designed to engage youth with a variety of entertaining and educational activities. The camp will include weekly storytelling sessions and STEM-related activities that promote creativity and hands-on learning for children and young adults. Art enthusiasts will have a chance to learn about the evolution of photogr aphy in Qatar through a discussion with photographers Vincent Aitzegagh and Khalifa Al Obaidly titled "Photographers' Stories: Documenting Qatar's Heritage." The Science Book Forum will return on 3 December, featuring Dr. Naif Al Mutawa, a Kuwaiti clinical psychologist and entrepreneur. Dr. Al Mutawa will discuss the creation of science fiction characters and how Hollywood's scientific approach to character development parallels historical narratives. His comic book series, praised by former U.S. President Barack Obama, will be a focal point of the discussion. On 4 December, a workshop on the production of the purple dye, significant to Qatar's identity, will take place. Faisal Abdulla Al Naimi from Qatar Museums will guide participants in understanding the ancient techniques of extracting purple dye from shells and its application to fabrics. The day will conclude with a performance by the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, featuring a blend of Qatari and Moroccan musical styles. Wildlife enthusiasts can look forward to "Adventures in Photographing the Birds of Qatar" on 12 December, presented by photographer Mohammed Al Baker. The event will explore Qatar's bird species and Al Baker's personal experiences in wildlife photography. The festivities will culminate on 17 December with a family-friendly celebration of Qatar National Day at the Library. The event will feature the QNL mascot Ramly, alongside activities such as traditional Qatari song-inspired karaoke and coloring sessions for children to explore their artistic talents. Additionally, QNL will release the latest episodes of its "QNL Engage" podcast, focusing on the history and achievements of the Sheikh Abdullah Al Ansari Complex, as explained by Faisal Al Ansari, the complex's executive director.
