Doha: The Qatar Olympic Academy concluded on Thursday a specialized training course titled 'Major Sports Event Management.' Launched on August 31 at the Academy's headquarters, the course was attended by more than 90 participants from inside Qatar and abroad, representing diverse professional and academic backgrounds. Participants included senior officials from sports federations, clubs, and institutions, as well as professional athletes.
According to Qatar News Agency, the sessions were delivered by former Deputy Executive Director of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, Dr. Sakis Batsilas, and a leading expert in sports event management. Dr. Batsilas brings extensive experience, having contributed to the 2006 Doha Asian Games, numerous major tournaments and events in Qatar, including the 2023 AFC Asian Cup, as well as European championships and the Olympic Games.
The course focused on nine main modules designed to cover all aspects of managing major sports events, drawing on real-world experiences such as the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and other high-profile sporting events.
Executive Director of Qatar Olympic Academy, Khalil Ibrahim Al Jaber, affirmed that the high level of participation demonstrates the course's success in achieving its primary objectives, underscoring its importance to the public. In a statement on Thursday, he said they are proud of the success of the Major Sports Event Management course, which met its diverse goals, most notably enhancing administrative, technical, and organizational competencies, and transferring the extensive expertise of the lecturer to a new generation of administrators, staff, and athletes.
Dr. Sakis Batsilas has decades of experience and a wide range of practical knowledge, having participated in many tournaments in Qatar, from the 2006 Doha Asian Games to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. He added they were particularly pleased by the diversity of participants, their cultural and academic backgrounds, and the variety of institutions that nominated their staff, both locally and internationally. This reflects the sports community's trust in their programs and courses, contributing to Qatar National Vision 2030 by building a sustainable sports community, and advancing the Academy's mission to promote sports culture in society.
Concluding his remarks, the Executive Director stated that continuing their series of courses on sports tournament organization, and recognizing the importance of this field, the Academy is preparing to launch a new, more detailed and specialized course later this month titled Sports Facilities Management.
